Intertidal Zone
We had a great day at the Members Only season opening of Palm Beach at Moody Gardens... and took zero pictures of all the fun. It was really great to see how much the girls' swimming skills have improved! This session at swimming lessons has been GREAT for them. They're not quite ready for the swim team, but they're definitely doing well, and having SO much fun! They loved showing off for their dad, and seemed a lot more comfortable in all of the water features.
After quiet time, we went down to the intertidal boulders to look for animals and just take in the ocean. Abby was content to just sit and watch the surf pounding against the rocks, but Izzy demanded a little more entertainment. The mats of sargassum seaweed kept us kind of trapped, so we had to stay in a smaller area than we normally do, but it forced us to look a little closer at the rocks to see what we could see, and we managed to identify five different animals.
Most exciting was a hermit crab that the girls held until he "tickled" them. We also saw gastropods, limpets, barnacles, and a baby crab. Pretty exciting stuff for a little walk along the beach!
