We took the girls up to the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was really, really amazing! The educational tour before and after the pavilion were great... the girls could manipulate the interactives and asked astute questions about all of the insects and critters. They were a little suspicious when we told them that crabs and butterflies were both arthropods, asserting that no, crabs were crustaceans and butterflies were nice bugs, but once we passed that hurdle, they were off and learning.
The exhibit itself is breathtaking. There are butterflies EVERYWHERE and they are so gorgeous. Abby was pretty tickled to see an iguana (her "lovie" animal of late is Larry the Lizard who is also an iguana). Izzy was pretty petrified that a butterfly might land on her, but Dan assured her that he'd shoo them away if they came too close. Abby was pretty disappointed that none of the butterflies did land on her.
After lunch and a nap, we got to go to Cavender's Boot City for my birthday present--new boots! Yay! I finally feel like a legitimate Texan now.
Not to be outdone, the girls got their boots on, too. The weather has cooled off so that it's in the low 80s in the evening, which has been perfect for outside fun.
