A Perfect Texas Day

This morning I ran my first post-twins 5K! Dan and the girls woke up early to cheer me on, and while it was pretty slow going, I ran the whole way! The race was the Shrimp Scamper, part of the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival, and part of the swag was entrance to the Gumbo stroll, which let us sample (and vote on) each of the entries into the Best Gumbo on Galveston Island contest.

After the festival, we took a long nap and then loaded back up to head to the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo for pony rides and bull riding. We weren't quite early enough to get the girls signed up for Mutton Bustin', but our plan is to try that at the Houston Rodeo in March... should be pretty exciting!

Izzy was still a little nervous about the rodeo clown, but Dan has been helpfully reminding her over the past week or so that the clown's job is to make sure the bulls don't hurt the cowboys after they jump (or fall) off; his status as a hero seems to temper her inexplicable fear of all things clown and mascot. Both girls were VERY thrilled about the bulls, and between each ride loudly announced that they were ready to watch another bull.
