Wrapping Up the Birthday Season

I was raised to believe that one's birthday wasn't bound by the date itself, but rather extended to include an entire season of celebration.  Dan outdid himself this year,  bookending my birthday with birthday boots on one end and a trip to Sea World San Antonio on the other.  I wasn't the only Obert girl to be thrilled! The girls were off and running with huge smiles as soon as the gates opened on Saturday!

We were pretty excited to see Shamu at the entrance.  Abby was quick to run up and give her a hug with T & D, but Izzy held back and made her dad bring her close enough for a quick greeting.

The girls are getting more skilled at feeding the dolphins, and we found that the dolphins are VERY hungry and friendly in the morning!

Even after we ran out of fish, the girls were transfixed by the dolphins.  When we prompted them to gather themselves together to move on to the sharks at the coral reef, Izzy said, "I'm not ready. I'm still watching the dolphins." Recognizing a kindred spirit, Mom acquiesced and we watched for a long time while the dolphins ate, clicked, bounced, and played.

We took a little time to try the rides today; the girls are just now tall enough for the kiddie roller coaster.  Abby was a daredevil and laughed through the whole ride; Izzy was a little more tentative and kept asking why the ride had to go so fast.  Both girls were a little more excited about the carousel.

Just before taking in our last show, we ran into Azul, the friendly beluga.  Abby again ran into a big hug; Izzy showed a spurt of bravery and ran to hug him herself; alas, I wasn't quick enough with the camera to capture the moment perfectly, but figured that an obstructed view is better than none at all.

Despite a broken sandal, blisters, and purchasing three new pairs of toddler shoes over the course of the weekend, we all had an amazing time and can't wait to go back!
