This morning, we had breakfast with Santa at the zoo!
The girls got to pet a guinea pig, a chinchilla, and the most ginormous bunny I've ever seen. It was hard to wait our turn, but the girls did very well and were rewarded with the great privilege of washing their hands with cleansing gel. Oh, that these sorts of rewards would work forever...
Izzy wanted NO part in playing with Santa. As soon as he entered the room, she crawled onto my lap. When Abby seemed a little interested and Dan took her over for a closer look, Izzy flipped out, worried, apparently, that Santa was going to take Abby away forever. Maybe next year...
After breakfast, we visited with the meerkats
...and the giraffes and elephants.
We went over to the primate exhibit to watch a keeper talk on orangutans. They're separated from their human visitors by big panes of glass, and they're frequently playing right on the other side. Today, there were two smaller animals that were being particularly playful. Abby was right up against the glass when one started running more-or-less towards her... Izzy, still a little hyped up from the terror of Santa, ran up behind her, yelling,"Abby, Abby!" and pulled her down off of the step that she was perched upon. Izzy was crying, presumably from fear; Abby was crying from having been pulled away and falling down, and Mom and Dad decided to forgo seeing the lions and to get the girls back in the car for a nap!
More festivities and excitement to come... we pick up Chelle and Casey from the airport tonight! Chickigram and GPa follow in a couple of days, and next week, we get to see Nana, Papa, and Uncles Kevin and Ryan! Woo hoo! We love Christmas visits!
