Imagination
I mentioned before that the girls are getting better and better at playing pretend. As much of a struggle as naptime has been lately, the girls do love to play "naps" with their babies in the guest bedroom. The girls tuck themselves and their babies in and then say, "Crazy!!" and kick the covers off... and then they say, "Night, night, babies," and tuck themselves back in. Silly girls.
My favorite stuffed animal when I was little was Julie, my oversized teddy bear. She went with me everywhere, usually wearing baby clothes. She managed to make the move with us to Texas and Izzy recently discovered her and seems to love her very much. She wouldn't participate herself in a family rendition of Head and Shoulders the other evening, but she helped Julie to point out her body parts in time to the music :)
Sadly, Julie has an obstinate streak, and she kept climbing up on the rocking chair. Izzy knows that rocking chairs are only for Mommies and Daddies, so she helped Julie mend the error of her ways in time out. Izzy and Abby played at this game for quite a while the other evening, pretending their animals were getting into all sorts of mischief, and then meting out appropriate punishments. We shut it all down when it seemed that time out was becoming a little bit too much fun...
The weather has been fantastic this week... it's been raining a little, but our afternoons have been glorious. Izzy isn't a big fan of feeling wet grass on her feet, but she's willing to try it if the incentives are stellar enough... like her bubble machine, or the idea of climbing. The girls recently re-discovered the pirate's ladder on their playset. Abby isn't too sure about it, but Izzy will climb all the way up to the top... it's pretty nerve-wracking, but it's so much fun to encourage her. At each step, she yells out, "Good job!" and sometimes, "Good job, Izzy Obert!"
