We had a lazy day around the house today, full of naps and football. The girls were clamoring to get out of the house this evening, so we drove over to Kemah for a little stroll along the boardwalk. The girls are a lot more independently mobile than they were when we visited Kemah last Easter!
The Stingray Reef at the Aquarium restaurant was up and running, so we decided to check it out. Abby was pretty typically brave and excited to see everything, but Izzy was a little shyer today, and more hesitant about everything, from the aquaria to petting the stingrays.
The stingrays all swim in a big pool, and come up to the surface to eat little fish that we got to hold in our hands. Sometimes they just came out of the water and wiggled their noses at us, as if to say, "Gimme some food." Abby thought it was great fun, but the whole situation kind of freaked Izzy out. There were a few REALLY BIG stingrays that swam over a twin-height window on the tank and Izzy said, "WHOAH!"
In another part of the exhibit, they had an elephant!
The owner of the Aquarium restaurant also owns the Rainforest Cafe, and the animals were strikingly similar... the girls thought they were pretty great, and talked back to the elephant with their own version of his trumpeting sound.
