Happy Fourth of July!

We had a great Fourth of July in Galveston. We started the day at the beach, of course. Aunt Casey is down for the weekend, so we had even more grown-up hands on deck, much to the delight of the girls who want to spend every minute jumping in the waves.

The girls are getting braver and braver in the water. The Gulf in Galveston is pretty shallow; I'm pretty sure that I've never walked out far enough to go over my head, and usually not even out into waist high water, so the depth isn't a problem, but there is an undertow, and the girls' confidence seems to be outpacing their swimming abilities, giving us all cause for heightened awareness at all times. Happily, we're usually going to the beach with a 2:1 ratio of adults to twins which helps quite a bit!

We had an Independence Day Celebration at the beach house after naptime, replete with good American food and family. The fireworks were pretty late and a little far away, but it was great to be able to see them from only about a block away from the house. The girls were pretty tired... after we staked our claim to a spot on the seawall, Abby took a quick cat nap... but we had a great time watching the show, and everyone slept VERY well that night.
