Nature Walk
My clearest and happiest memories growing up are springtime nature walks. GPa was happy to be our guide as we explored the nature preserve behind their house (our old stomping grounds :). We saw a pond-ful of tadpoles, a pretty big garter snake, and when we put the girls up on this hollow log for a photo op, a RACOON ran out of the end of it!
GPa taught the girls about galls on the grasses, and taught them the secret to remembering the different types of wetlands grasses (sedges have edges, reeds are round, and cattails are flat). We all had ticks crawling all over us (all removed before they took hold) and were exhausted by the time we walked home, but the girls are never too tired to be excited about fire hydrants. (We have no explanation... they just love them.)
After a change of clothes and a hearty dinner (deep dish pizza... mmm), the girls had a delicious black cow on the back deck. Life is good here in the spring!
