Volcano Day!

The girls and I arrived safe and sound for our two-week Illinois adventure.  The weather here is beautiful, the lilacs are blooming, and the woods in the backyard are so green and gorgeous!

A week or so before we left, the girls found instructions for making a model volcano in a kids Earth Science book that they found on their shelves.  After some quick thinking on my part, the girls called their GPa to see if he would help them make one when they came to Illinois.  He was more than happy to oblige, and even came up with a few different volcano options, one utilizing the tried-and-true method with baking soda and vinegar, and another with pop and Mentos.

Ever the science teacher, GPa gave the girls a brief chemistry lesson, as well as a breakdown of the scientific process, and a hat tip to the earth science objectives that got this whole ball of hot lava rolling.  Then, he gave the girls a bucket of mud with which to construct their volcanoes.

Finally, it was time for the explosions!
