First Flight, a Wedding, and a Brunch

Abby and Izzy took their first flight! We (Nicci, Dan, the girls, and Chickigram and GPa) all flew up to Chicago for my cousin Steve's wedding. Steve and Rhoda have been dating for 6 1/2 years, and it was so sweet to welcome her officially into the family. The wedding was perfect, and the trip was really fun, if a bit of a whirlwind!

The flying process was an adventure! Traveling with babies means taking along a lot of baby gear, and going through security the first time was just crazy. I thought we had everything all through the X-ray machine, so I took Abby out of her carseat and walked through the metal detector, only to turn around and see Dan a bit bewildered because he was left with Izzy, both carseats and the stroller, which had to go through the X-ray machine. A nice lady behind him offered to hold Izzy (good thing she didn't abscond with her!) while he broke everything down! Yikes! We were much more efficient on the return trip! :)

The girls did really well on the flight. It wasn't at all full, so Chickigram and GPa took Abby and Dan and I had Izzy, and the girls got to chill out in each of the middle seats for most of the flight. Abby did NOT think sleeping was in order, even though the flight departed at bedtime. We paid for that later when our overtired baby refused to sleep for more than 90 minute stretches all night! I finally let her into bed with me for the first time since her first week of life... desperate times and desperate measures and all of that!

Dan's best friends from college, Paul and Matt, picked him up at the airport, and he got to spend Thursday and Friday with them. The girls and I met them at the Field Museum in the afternoon, and then met Aunt Chelle for dinner at Giordano's... we have been dearly missing Chicago style pizza and overstuffed ourselves. Yummmm.

The girls and their dad pose with the ginormous skull of Sue (the Field Museum's T.Rex).

The girls needed a bath while we were gone, but the infant tub didn't make the list of essential baby gear items needed for travel, so we made do with Chickigram and GPa's kitchen sink, which was fun for the girls.

Saturday was the wedding, which was lovely and sweet. We left the girls for the first time with a non-relative babysitter! Wow! Casey's best friends from high school, Liz and Tessa, came over to entertain the twins. A huge thanks to them!!!

We brought the girls to the reception, which was in the same hall in which Dan and I celebrated our marriage! The girls got to meet their other twin cousins... my cousin Phil and his wife Chanda welcomed Aiden and Ashley into their family 6 weeks ago! It was, as always, crazy to see the girls next to the tiny babies... we are always in awe at how fast they've grown!

The girls also got to meet their Arizona relatives, which was so, so fun for all of us! Aunt Kathy is GPa's youngest sister. She and her husband Russ moved to AZ when the cousins were all really little. Their kids, Jonathan, Matt, and Janine, are all now (recently) married; Jonathan and his wife Elisabeth have a son, Caleb, and "baby" Janine held our babies a LOT... we think she might have baby fever :)

The girls slept in shifts through the reception. Abby took the early shift, and then got to stay up late, dancing with her dad and vying for the tossed bouquet. Izzy fell asleep later, and slept through most of the dancing, despite the loud music!

On Sunday, we had a brunch and got to see our Chicago-area friends and family for a few hours before we flew back to Texas. It was SO great to see everyone! It was especially amazing to see my friends' children! They are all so sweet, and beautiful, and just generally amazing :)

Arguably the most smitten with the girls are their aunts. It was a pretty sure bet that one of the babies was held by Chelle or Casey at any given moment on Sunday. The girls try and try to convince them to move down to Texas... we shall see if their efforts pay off!

What kind of cake is that, Casey?

Great-grandpa Schoob got five great-grandchildren over the course of the past 6 months! First, Jonathan married Elisabeth whose son, Caleb was his first. Then, our twins arrived, and finally, Phil's twins! Wow! Here he is, with GPa holding our girls, and Aunt Janine holding her grandbabies!

Mom's best friend Jody got to meet the girls this weekend!
