We had another wonderful day at the beach today! It's been pretty cold all week, but today it warmed up, hurray! My friend Amber invited us to join her playgroup at one of the little pocket parks where you can drive right onto the beach. The girls "napped" in the car on the way there, and as soon as I opened the side doors, Abby's face lit up into a HUGE smile... I'm not sure if she saw the Gulf or the birds, but something reminded her that we were in a happy place! She didn't stop smiling for a few hours!
Both girls were pretty brave about sitting and splashing in the water, although Izzy seems to be a little less sure of herself in general.... she watches Abby and I for cues on how to react, but as long as we're both smiling, she's happy to giggle and clap when the waves come in, even when they knock her down on her buns :) Abby is still prone to wander as far as I'll let her go, which frightens me for the future, but which is just pretty funny now that she can't go very fast.
We had a couple of milestone moments yesterday.... first, Izzy figured out how to "drive" the car, Flintstone style, although she's only mastered "reverse." :)
And we made our first attempt at letting the girls feed themselves with spoons. It went about as well as we might have expected.
And when the pigtails fail, the gangsta look prevails...
