We had our first Story Time at the library today, and it was... interesting. Story time is held right at naptime, which is not altogether convenient, but the girls did pretty well, considering.
Before story time, we played in the Children's area at the library. There were lots of board books with baby faces, which the girls loved. Abby The Brave wandered around, watching and talking to the other kids and playing with the toys and puzzles. Izzy watched her and didn't step more than a few feet away from me, although she did talk a lot about the books she was reading.
When we made it into the storytime room, the girls didn't want to sit on their little mats, which was OK. We sang several songs, like Itsy Bitsy Spider and Head and Shoulders, which was pretty fun. Izzy is GREAT at mimicking, and loves getting praise, so these sorts of songs were right up her alley... she clapped, tried to stomp, and shouted Hooray because she was happy and she knew it. Very cute. Abby was still in wander mode, and kept walking up to the lady in front of us, putting her arm around her shoulders, and giving her a HUGE grin. It was very cute, but not really the appropriate time for making friends :) They were relatively quiet for story time, and they roared right on cue when they saw the lion in the story.
All in all, it was a fun time. The girls don't get a lot of structured activity time, so I think we'll try to keep going, so that they can continue to learn the value of appropriate public behavior, and so that they can get excited about checking out their own books each week.
The girls are very big fans of their Dad. Yesterday we had an outpouring of affection when he came home, and we captured a few key moments...
You may have noticed our new hair plan in the pictures above. I'm not stellar at managing to get a perfect part for the pigtails, and the girls are pretty adept at pulling them out, but I think this is working a little better for us than the "wake up and go" style. In the meantime, their hair continues to grow, and I'm sure that it will be a source of both fun and consternation for years to come...

Nicci,
Are you one of those beauticians that 'trusts their own opinion'? I love love love the pigpails, but it does look like you maybe had a moving target.
