Big Girl Beds

This seems to be the month of "big girl" milestones! The girls are in their big-girl beds now. They've both been climbing out of their cribs, albeit sporadically, since just before Christmas, and after Izzy took what we presume was a pretty big tumble, we decided to bite the bullet and convert the cribs. Yikes!

It took us almost an hour to locate the hardware, as we'd put it in a drawer for "safe-keeping" so that the girls wouldn't swallow the nuts and bolts... alas, we didn't leave ourselves a treasure map, ergo, a fun hour of tearing apart the house in a mad-dash search.

Izzy was rapt with curiosity, watching her Dad put the new bed together. We worried that she'd be the one to freak out because the "cage" part of the crib was missing, but both girls took it in stride and slept soundly. They each fell out of bed once in the night, but went back to sleep as soon as I tucked them back in. Naptime so far today has been blissful. Here's to hoping things stay this calm! The girls don't seem to have clued into the fact that they're now able to get out of bed on their own (except for the middle-of-the-night tumbles)... we're going to keep that one under our hats as long as possible.

To recap our week....

Last Sunday, we celebrated the first birthday of the triplets! Dan's friend from work, Chris, and his wife, Allison, live just up the road, and they celebrated with a big bounce house in their back yard. The girls had such a fun time that we think we might borrow the idea. Except for a brief respite for a snack, I'm not sure they stopped bouncing the entire time we were there.

We did all of our "normal" weekday morning activities this week. The girls have been crying when I leave them in the nursery for my Bible study, but they have been playing and giggling when I pick them up, and they're starting to tell me stories about what they did while I was gone. It's pretty fun. We had to pause on Monday so that they could hug one of their new friends goodbye. Abby was very good at following instructions on Tuesday at library story time, and did all of the motions to "Head and Shoulders" and "The Itsy-bitsy Spider." Izzy stood there like a bump on a log, even though she's much more likely to sing and dance along when we sing at home. Hmmm. Then on Wednesday, Izzy was our little leader at Kindermusik. Both girls were THRILLED to be back at Little Gym again, and ran, balanced, flipped, and giggled for the entire class period. Friday, we took a day off due to inclement weather. It was actually kind of fun, because we've been so busy that the girls haven't had much time in their playroom.

The girls are LOVING learning to draw. Izzy likes to tell us the letters that she's drawing (mostly O's and I's) and they are sort of representative... :) The girls learned their last name this week, and Mom and Dad's first names. They're able to count to 10 now, and sometimes are willing to count the number of objects placed before them. They can recognize all of their letters, are pretty accurate with most colors, but we've kind of stalled on the states... Texas, Illinois, and Montana are still pretty fresh in their minds, but the rest are really hit or miss. We'll get working on the maps again!

We've also started potty-training, sort of. Right now, we're in the "sit on the potty sometimes" phase, although Izzy is letting us know sporadically when she actually needs to go. We're hoping that this will be a fairly smooth process, and that we get it completed before summer so that we can be done with those pricey swim diapers! :)

Phew, lots of words, not enough pictures!

This afternoon, we went with my friend Rachel and her (six!) kiddos to Moody Gardens.

The girls had a fun time playing with the water fountain...

And we got to see all of our favorites... the penguins, the rays, the octopus... and then Izzy had a meltdown...

Abby stood over her and said, "Fit, fit!" And I agreed that yes, Izzy was pitching a royal fit. Luckily, the touch pool was next, and the prospect of washing her hands brightened her spirits and gave her a second wind so that we could finish up. Silly babies.
