Polar Express

We took a quick trip to the North Pole before Christmas! The Texas State Railroad runs a Polar Express every December.  It's about 3 1/2 hours away, but we heard that it is a fantastic outing, so we decided to make the trek and were not disappointed! We took the last train of the day, which, in retrospect, may have been asking a little much from the girls after a very long car ride, a swim in the pool, and controlling their wiggles during a meal at a restaurant. They weren't entirely thrilled to be waiting for the train...

But once the (extraordinary) hot chocolate and cookies arrived, served by dancing chefs and accompanied by Christmas carols, the girls moods improved as we inched closer and closer to the North Pole.

Santa boarded the train to pass out silver bells, which made Izzy VERY nervous, but he didn't linger long, she was brave enough to say thank you, and she is very fond of her bell!

It truly was a great experience.  I'm not sure we'll make the trek every year, because it IS a long car ride during a very busy month, but we'll definitely be back at some point!
