The girls understand that holidays are special days that all have special significance, but that primarily mean that Daddy gets to stay home from work. We introduced them to the concept of vacation days today when Dan took a day off. They wish every day could be a vacation day :)
We went back to the Cockrell Butterfly Center in Houston to celebrate. The girls loved it, of course, although Izzy made her dad carry her through the butterfly pavilion and promise to shoo away any errant butterflies that might try to land on her. One of the docents showed us some butterfly eggs on one of the plants, which was particularly exciting in light of the Very Hungry Caterpillar performance that we saw last month. They seem to have a pretty good grasp of the life cycle of the butterfly... I hear them playing fairly often, telling each other that they are baby butterflies, so they need to eat a lot so that they can turn into a chrysalis. Science lessons for kids are so much fun!
