Locomotion

The girls are officially not "lay on the blanket" babies any longer. Izzy is a little bit more forwardly mobile with her crawling, and Abby is more likely to use the lateral roll, but they no longer stay in one place for more than a moment or two. It's fun to watch, but it's a little daunting to know that I now really have to watch them like a hawk! Our plugs are all covered, and the crib mattresses have been lowered, but I feel like we're woefully unprepared for true baby-proofing! The girls have, however, fully declared, "Look out world, here we come!"

Thankfully, Izzy's crawling has been confined to just a few body lengths, but she does seem to have an eye for Things That Are Not Toys. She is always lunging for the camera, the "Little Noses" bottle of saline drops, and the diaper wipes. Never mind that there are toys EVERYWHERE in our house... silly kid!

We don't use them very often, but the girls do love their walkers. We have "walker races" in the front hallway, which are usually interrupted by cats going in/out of the catdoor, and lots of giggles, but fun is the goal anyway :)

Abby is definitely the more pensive of the twins. Izzy seems to attack her toys with vigor and giggles, and Abby really takes time to figure out how they work, and goes back to the same functions (like the rolling ball things on top of this giraffe) each time she plays with them. It is fascinating to watch them develop SO differently! What a case study for nature vs. nurture! (We jokingly considered raising one child with "good" parenting skills and one with "bad" to see what would happen, but decided against it... hopefully they both turn out OK with us doing the very best that we can!)

The girls sat in restaurant high chairs for the first time today! We had our Friday-night-out meal at delicious Chick-fil-a, and the girls got to try out their new high-chair cover toys that we picked up at the Buy-n-sell. They were a big hit... almost as big as the tastes of milkshake and chicken sandwiches... mmmmm. We love Chick-fil-a.

The play kitchen is still a huge hit. Abby is just an excellent stander. She really prefers it to sitting... I think laying on her back and eating her feet comes in a close second :) When at the kitchen sink, she alternates between rolling the counting wheel and popping down the toast. Mom is VERY familiar with the sounds that those actions elicit. Amusingly, Rica gets in on the action... she walks through the archway to get to her hiding place behind the couch, and sets off the motion detector that makes the toy sing, "Walkin' through the doorway...just to hear a song!" She did this once when the girls were in bed for a nap, which really freaked me out for a minute.

Daddy's idea of winding down at night is a little game of Twin Smackdown. :) Giggles, giggles all around.
